PhD Candidate and Graduate Research Assistant in Horticultural Sciences Department
Blueberry Breeding and Genomics Lab - University of Florida

About Me

I recently defended my PhD dissertation in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at the University of Florida, under the guidance of Dr. Patricio Munoz in the Blueberry Breeding and Genomics Lab. My research employed a multidisciplinary approach to plant breeding, integrating phenotypic, phenomic, genomic, and environmental data. By leveraging advanced statistical and genetic methodologies, I developed tools for genomic and phenomic prediction, optimizing breeding strategies to enhance fruit quality traits and maximize genetic gains while minimizing costs.

Currently, as a postgraduate associate, I specialize in blueberry breeding and genomic data analysis, focusing on advanced phenotyping techniques and multi-trait selection. My work includes developing statistical models for genomic prediction in multi-environment trials, applying computer vision for yield estimation, acoustics for fruit texture analysis, and exploring the integration of phenomic-assisted selection in the breeding pipeline. Additionally, I collaborate with international partners to provide technical support for breeding programs and develop RShiny applications for interactive data visualization.

Beyond research, I am passionate about mentoring graduate students and fostering their growth as future scientists. My global academic journey spans Master’s degrees from institutions in Finland, France, and Nigeria, and practical experiences with leading organizations like Corteva, KWS, and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture.

I am also the founder of Edu-Kids Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to providing educational and social welfare support to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Nigeria. Through various support programs, including student support, feeding programs, scholarships, sanitary hygiene initiatives, and counseling and monitoring services, our mission is to address the educational challenges faced by OVC in Nigeria and other developing countries.

While my work keeps me busy, I also enjoy exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. I have a passion for music and appreciate various forms of artwork. In my spare time, I engage in acrylic painting on small canvases. Recently, I have developed an interest in cooking and enjoy playing pickle ball with friends.
